The Benefits of Working with a Pre - Postnatal Exercise Specialist
Motherhood is an incredible time of changes in your life and your body, and the general consensus is that there are many benefits from exercising for mother and baby. It’s actually a great time to move and be active. But the confusion on what, how, and when to do it can be overwhelming for moms!
That’s why the role of a Pre + Postnatal exercise specialist is crucial for the wellbeing of a mother, during pregnancy and postpartum.
First of all, a Pre + Postnatal exercise specialist is a certified Personal Trainer specialized in working with expectant and postpartum women. Contrary to what many people believe or assume, a “personal trainer” is not required to have any knowledge or understanding of pregnancy or recovery. In most “personal trainer” certifications, the process of pregnancy is rarely mentioned, if at all.
Unfortunately, we also need to deal with an incredible amount of confusing misinformation in the internet, especially from “Influencers” that, without any professional background or certification, give dangerous advice and create programs for mothers just because they had a baby and they look good. It’s a shame that nowadays there is still no proper regulation in the fitness industry, especially for working with a special population such as Pre + Postnatal.
Working with a person who specializes in pre-postnatal exercise allows you to have the confidence that your exercise routine will be appropriate for your baby and your changing body. Pelvic floor and core health, prevention, and healing of pregnancy related injuries, such as incontinence, diastasis recti, prolapse, physical and mental preparation for your labor and delivery, should all be top priorities in your workouts and programs.
For these reasons, I highly recommend that every mom consider checking qualifications, experience, and credibility of whomever you want to trust for your and your baby’s health in such an important chapter of your life!
